Forget the dreaded month-end shopping drag, this mobile optimised slot from PG Soft does the impossible – it makes shopping exciting! While there is a scarcity of bonus features, the cascading symbols and the pace of the game more than make up for it, and the fast-paced soundtrack certainly adds to the frenetic feel.

Filled with grocery items, scatters, and multipliers, it’s the cascading symbols feature that really makes Supermarket Spree a fun-filled shopping trip and takes what could be a plain and possibly boring game and elevates into a fun and eye-catching entertainment option for online gamblers. It’s like a food-based Candy Crush with the chance to win big cash – up to a max win of 25,000x!  

The cluster pays mechanic means you only need to land 8x any particular symbol across the 6×6 grid to hit a win, although it’s not as easy as it may sound.

Symbols

Players want to fill their shopping trolley with all the groceries they can to hit the winning combos. Wins are paid out if players land 8 or more matching symbols across the 6×6 grid. As winning combos are hit, they disappear and are replaced by new symbols, adding to the win opportunities.  

Symbols from lowest to highest value: Egg, Onion, Grape, Apple, Banana, Cheese, Bread, Milk, Meat, Lobster. The more symbols you collect in one win, the higher your win amount.

There are also random multipliers from 2x to an incredible 50x to rack up the big bucks wins. The higher multipliers are only available during Free Spins though so look for those Scatters.

Graphics

Graphics are very basic, as is the custom with games optimised for mobile, but they are crisp and clear. PG Soft have managed to marry simplicity and elegance to create a wonderfully colourful game.

Sound

The sound is a bit weird. Maybe we’re just used to the piped in muzak of shops, but Supermarket Spree sounds more like a 70’s disco than a supermarket. Cheesy music, a lot of odd voices – an odd choice. And yet, it does work with the game to amp up that fast-paced feel.

Bonuses and extras

Bonuses seem to be out of stock for the most part but the few that are on the shelf are good and add some valuable totals to our wins.

Multipliers

2x to 5x multipliers land frequently during the base game to ramp up the wins. But it’s the up to 50x multipliers during the Free Spins stage that really make the big bucks roll in.

Scatters

The Shopping Basket is the Scatter and landing 3x or more of them will trigger 10x or more Free Spins (and unlock those juicy up to 50x multipliers).

For a game that we were a little doubtful of, PG Soft have delivered a surprisingly engaging sleeper hit. Full of pacy gameplay and lots of winning chances, not to mention that sweet 25,000x max win, Supermarket Spree may just become a monthly must for us.
