Gameplay

NetEnt’s vampire-themed Blood Suckers online and mobile slots game is a cult classic among the online casino crowd. Released back in 2009, although there is a more recent and updated Blood Suckers 2 available, Blood Suckers proved to be a massive hit as players hunted through the ominous corridors of Dracula’s Castle tracking down various creatures of the night including the Succubus, Nosferatu, Vlad the Impaler, and – the big prize – the Vampire Bride.

Full of classic symbols like garlic, stakes, bibles, and coffin-strewn rooms, Blood Suckers is a gory, ghoulish delight – even though the graphics are a little outdated in the modern online slots world.

While the look is a little on the older side, it is still good enough to give players a visceral thrill when the reels start spinning and the frequent animations and the Bonus Game offer more than enough claret to satisfy any lover of vampire horror.

NetEnt have done a great job of bringing the classic Transylvanian tale of the bloodthirsty (quite literally) Count to undead life. The most well-known aspects of the historical story are all present – down to having the three most popular versions of Dracula present: Nosferatu as made famous by Max Schreck in the 1922 German Expressionist silent film, the tortured aristocrat of the Anne Rice Gothic Romance era as made popular by Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt in Interview with the Vampire, and even the OG monster himself – Vlad the Impaler, scourge of Turks and real-life inspiration for the Transylvanian tales of terror. There’s even the cheesy high collared, slicked back hair Count Dracula on the Wilds!

Scattered throughout the gloomy background are stacks of classic vampire tropes like stakes, bibles, holy water, coffins, and bulbs of garlic.

Gameplay is quick and entertaining but the biggest draw for players is the 98% RTP and very low volatility. While this does mean that max bet and max winnings are on the low side, it leads to lots and lots of frequent hits and small wins that will keep players engrossed for ages.

Set your bet level and coin value before you start spinning those reels, make use of Max Bet or Auto spin if you need, and get ready to enter the doors of Dracula’s Castle as you hunt down the Blood Suckers!

Symbols

The Blood Suckers symbols are the perfect reflection of the vampire-themed blood fest. A little dated graphically but still good enough to get us invested in the story.

Symbols from lowest paying to highest: Garlic, Crossbow (same value); Bible and Cross, Holy Water (same value); Succubus; Nosferatu; Aristocrat; Vlad the Impaler.

Count Dracula is Wild and substitutes for all symbols except Scatter and Bonus.

The Hammer and Stake is the Bonus symbol that activates the Bonus Game.

The Bride is the Scatter that awards Free Spins and Multipliers.

Graphics

The graphics, as mentioned, are a little dated when compared to some of the more recent online and mobile slots games out there – but they are still great. They actually give a kind of retro vibe to the Blood Suckers online slot and perfectly capture all the elements that make vampire stories so everlasting.

Sound

Blood Suckers has a weird soundtrack that lies under the reels effects – it’s almost Addams Family rather than horror – which is a pity. It’s not terrible but it takes us away from the horror and gives the game a bit of a campy vibe reminiscent of B-grade schlock horror movies.

Bonuses and extras

There are two bonus features in Blood Suckers: a Bonus mini game and Free Spins. The Bonus mini game is fun, but the bigger wins will happen if players trigger the Free Spins.

Dracula Wilds

Substitute for all symbols except Bonus and Scatter symbols. Landing 5x Wilds will award one of the bigger base game wins.

Bonus Game

Land 3x or more Bonus Hammer and Stake symbols on successive reels from left to right to trigger a fun pick and win mini game. Players get to choose from a series of coffins in a tomb room. Open the coffin and stake the vampire to win coins. If you release the bats from the coffin the bonus game is over.

Scatter Free Spins

The most rewarding bonus feature is the Scatter Free Spins. Land 3x or more Bride Scatters to unlock Free Spins and multipliers.

3 Scatters = 10x Free Spins, 4 Scatters = 20x Free Spins, 5 Scatters = 30x Free Spins all with a 3x multiplier.

The OCR verdict

Blood Suckers is a NetEnt classic for a reason: fun, thrilling, spine-chilling and packed with wins. It’s a fantastic online slot that, like its protagonist, seems to defy the ages and have an everlasting appeal. Gory and ghastly and a great way to spend some time on the reels.

Highly recommended.
